Through the Smokescreen of Tourism: Seeing the People in the Places We Visit

Come with me as I travel with the purpose of having fun while also learning about the people that are often overlooked. It is normal to travel in blissful ignorance, ignoring the people that live where you are visiting and unknowingly contributing to their exploitation. Each article in this series will explore a different culture, neighborhood, city or country through the eyes of a resident.  This series was inspired by "A Small Place" by Jamaica Kincaid and will amplify native voices and feelings.
